A tertiary hermit living in the United States recently went to Morgon, France to stay with our Capuchins. On his return to the U.S., he graciously sent me this leaflet which gives a little bit of history on the Archconfraternity of the Cord of St. Francis and describes the days on which cordbearers may gain a plenary indulgence. The prescribed work calls for a renewing of one's committment to the Archconfraternity of the Cord. A prayer that can be said to fulfill this work is found in the Third Order manual published by Morgon. Fr. Mery graciously translated it for us. It is as follows:
My Lord and my God, I consecrate myself to Thee and to Thy Mother. So take, I beg Thee, possession of my soul, my body, my senses, my faculties, my will, my freedom, all of me.....Please bless, too, my consecration to St. Francis, for I will be bound by this cord generously to him as he is to Our Lord Jesus Christ. Deign, therefore, to grant me the grace to remain faithful to it the rest of my life, and to grow daily in Thy Divine Love, under the protection of my two new patron saints, St. Benedict Joseph Labre and St. Bernadette Soubirous, in order to finally praise Thee in heaven together with them. Amen.
The usual conditions for obtaining a plenary indulgence can be found in the Enchiridion of Indulgences.
Thank you, Brother, for your kindness in giving us this leaflet. And thank you, Fr. Mery, for the translation of the prayer.
In the Seraphic Father.
